Article From Eau Claire Leader....

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association Board of Control governs the divisions of the member schools in tournament play and continues to pit private schools against the small schools: Regis vs. Bangor, McDonell vs. Plum City, McDonell vs. Rib Lake, Catholic Central vs. Johnson Creek, Newman Catholic vs. Tigerton. In all instances, the private schools draw from huge populations and are competing with small schools drawing from small towns. Add to this the fact that the private schools draw from surrounding communities: For example, students from Catholic Central may be from Burlington, population 11,000, or from neighboring towns in an area with a population of 200,000 or more. Regis has students from Eau Claire and surrounding communities. Aquinas has students from La Crosse, La Crescent, Onalaska, Bangor, etc.

Comment From A Reader Below:

I would disrespectfully suggest the WIAA Board of Control change its title to the Board of No Control or the Board of Ineptitude. They have created a situation whereby the private schools are now despised by most small community schools in the WIAA's smaller divisions. Either create a division for private and charter schools or place them in Division I.

Once Again this Opinion from a staff writer and Comment from a reader hits the nail on the head. Can't say anything more than that!!

Chippewa Falls McDonell has done it again to a D4 Public School in Division 7 Football and Catholic Central did it to DeSoto on the other side of the football bracket. McDonell can draw from a D1 Public Size Town Of [12,929] and Gilman's Population Size Of [446] and Burlington Catholic Central can draw from a D1 Public Size Town Of [10,930] and DeSoto Population Size Of [381]. Information provided by the web site City-data.com. How can small public school athletic programs compete with this? If you have the answer, E-Mail any and all newspapers so they can publish your thoughts and maybe the WIAA will read the writing on the wall and come up with a Fair Playoff System.
