Around 25,000 years ago baby Ugh was born,
In a cave near Rib Lake one crisp Ice Age morn.
He faithfully loved ol' Ma and Pa Ugh.
But later he caught a wanderer's bug.
He fashioned some clothes from leaves and hide;
There were no Malls then far or wide.
Saying 'bye' to his folks he set out past Rib Lake.
No suitcases. No snacks. Not too much to take.
He toted a club, though not as a weapon.
It helped Ugh to manage some slippery steppin'.
With flint-axe and tree branches he fashioned his tent.
It was wisdom, more than ice, that made him such a "cool" gent.
Ugh hiked amid glaciers under day skies so blue.
Avoiding that frost-bite was a smart thing to do.
He roamed and rambled for years on end.
Ugh learned every tree and Rib Lake bend.
Sipping crystal clear water, Ugh's cup over-runneth,
When he'd come by a village they'd shout "the ice man cometh."
With his determined mind Ugh refused to dally.
He scouted every hilltop and fertile Rib Lake valley.
Ugh was first to discover the fun here every season:
For hiking, skiing, photography; whatever the reason.
Did Ugh know that Rib would become the lake all would hail,
In the heart of Wisconsin on a national scenic trail?
He scouted Rib Lake's shores without littering the way.
It's a commitment we all should follow today.
Ugh's vanished by now without a trace,
Though Mother Nature's scenes may at times show his face.
But his legend has survived like a mighty oak tree
Throughout the Rib Lake area's long, intriguing history.
